Official Policy: Vietnam Vets Not Thrown Away, Here

By VVAW

[Printer-Friendly Version]

While Vietnam veterans in the U.S. are under consistent attack by the government, their counterparts in what was North Vietnam benefited from a wholly different type of policy toward veterans. The following official policy was in effect in North Vietnam even while the war was going on.

"Official policy has been established that while waiting for work they will receive the same salary they got in service...suitable jobs are to be reserved for Vietnam veterans...state agencies must reserve places for wounded veterans...and log jams must be cleared by opening new classes to teach special skills...enterprises set up by veterans are to get extra state aid--and loans at the lowest interest rate (living conditions of families of veterans are to be at least as good as the rest of the population)--dependents are entitled to direct financial aid--and children of dead or wounded veterans are to receive educational privileges and special attention throughout their schooling."
