John Ketwig: Frequent Interview Subject

By Carolynn Ketwig

I know how meaningful John's contributions to veterans' issues and VVAW were to him over the years. It seems he was doing constant interviews with students referred to him through VVAW. He would always ask that they let him know what grade they earned. John was so proud that their grades were exemplary.

Much of his participation with Veterans and peace issues was at conferences, live discussions at libraries, high school and college classrooms, radio interviews, Zoom, video, televised interviews (local shows, ESPN, Write Around the Corner on PBS), or recorded interviews (BBC).

Here is a letter from one of the last students to interview John, along with his drawing

Dear VVAW,

Fortunately, the interview did already take place. Thank you for introducing me to Mr. Ketwig—we had a truly insightful conversation, and I loved getting to know him.

I am deeply saddened to hear of his passing. I would like to send my deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. My thoughts are with them during this difficult time.

I know that Mr. Ketwig was interested in hearing how my project turned out, and I am happy to share that with his help and guidance, it went perfectly. As part of the project, I also drew a portrait of him, which I have included.

Mr. Ketwig was a great, remarkable man, and I am very blessed to have had the opportunity to speak with him and learn from his wisdom. Our conversation left a lasting impression on me.

With sincere condolences,
Quynh Phan
