The Space in Between (poem)
By Woody Powell
[Printer-Friendly Version]
One moment I'm in the land of the living.
The next I am in a space between the living and the dead.
I know that's where I am,
Because the past holds very little substance;
Only old life lessons from the essences of people I have known remain,
Long after the names have slipped from memory.
The way ahead is completely unknown,
No barriers, just a sense of waiting for a certain moment,
That's all, a certain moment when I pass over or through,
Or enter or go beyond.
Those things I will find out before very long.
There are bonds built over a lifetime
That will not loosen.
They are bonds of love, I carry them wherever I go.
Will I carry these bonds,
Knowing that they are eternal,
Yet what kind of carrier will I be?
Perhaps the bonds will be the carrier of me,
Perhaps I will always be borne up and defended by love.
Such are the ruminations,
From the space in between.
