Flagpole at the Landfill (poem)

By D F Brown

[Printer-Friendly Version]

Locked in love with the legendary
You think your mind a dream
History mystery bullshit in one pile
You stand in the rubble admire the ruins
Memory as an open wound
The splash and ripple of recall
Clot by clot spilled to spell
Words scars shadows fit
Something loose inside
Enough scraps to puzzle the past as body count
Soldiers as shovel-ready-projects
Lost in names you can't forget
The place is sick with flags
The red stripes are blood.
