The Veteran: Submission Guidelines

The Veteran is published twice a year, on Memorial Day and Veterans Day.

We accept electronic submissions in text-only and rich text formats. Paste your article into the body of an email or attach a text file.

The preferred article length is 400 to 800 words. Please do not submit an article over 1000 words in length unless given the go-ahead by an editor.

Please title your submission. We may decide to change it for publication, but we need something with which to work. Letters to the editor should be clearly marked as such; no title is necessary in this case.

Please submit a short bio (no more than 50 words) along with your article.

Submit only an article you have written yourself. if you would like to suggest a reprint, please keep in mind that we need permission from the publication and/or the author. By submitting material, you acknowledge that you are legally entitled to distribute the work and to allow it to be redistributed.

We cannot provide payment for articles. All material may be edited for clarity, style and length.

If you have a photos that relate to your story, please send those as well. Send high resolution tiffs or jpegs as attachments. Please include caption information. If sending photos in the mail, please do not send us your only copy.
