Why I Joined VVAW

I'm an ex-jet engine and airplane mechanic who is now a librarian in central Illinois. I tell myself I am not as gullible as I was when I was 18. When someone waves a flag in my face, I look at who's doing the waving, where and why. The VVAW gives me a way to feel some pride in an identity that took up a lot of my life and at the same time to express my dissatisfaction with the clean-fingernailed, shoot-first-ask-questions-later crowd in D.C. I'd like to think being the only superpower isn't a good enough excuse for being the nastiest kid on the playground, so maybe I am as gullible as I was when I was 18, but we have still got to try and keep the politicians working in plain sight and for us.
