VVAW Delegation Visits Nicaragua

By VVAW

We Won't Fight Another Rich Man's War—And Neither Will Our Children!

In the third week of April, 1986, a VVAW delegation, 14 strong, representing the east and west coasts, and the Midwest, toured Nicaragua on a fact-finding mission.

An intense, 6-day schedule took the VVAW members from the Une La Segovia region to the streets of Managua, Finostega, Matagalpa and Estelí. Meeting with officials at all points of the trip including Javier Carrion—charged with the defense of all Nicaragua—and Omar Cabezas, famed guerrilla leader and second in command to Thomas Borge in the Ministry of Interior.

The official meetings were tempered by the hundreds of unofficial encounters everyone had with the people of Nicaragua whose openness and friendly attitudes to the "Notre Americanos" showed the delegation the depth of support for the Revolution.

As a tightly knit group of friends and highly organized delegation the experiences of the individual VVAW members were immediately shared collectively by the group in nightly meetings. What follows here are some of those impressions of Nicaragua which those of us in the delegation, which made the trip, want to share with you, the readers of THE VETERAN.
