200 Rally in Demanding "Free The Pendleton 14!"

By VVAW

As part of VVAW's continuing support for the Pendleton 14, Chapters of the organization from San Diego and Los Angeles joined with other supporters in a demonstration to Free the Pendleton 14.

Back in November, 14 Black Marines at the Camp Pendleton Marine Base had enough of the KKK scum operating freely on the base and decided to take them on. Although they mistakenly went into the room next to the KKK meeting, their determination to fight against the KKK and the racism in the Marine Corps earned them the support of people from around the country.

During the demonstration of some 200 people, a VVAW speaker made clear why we are supporters of the struggle of the Pendleton 14: "It's very important to continue to fight for the freedom of the Pendleton 14; this demonstration is a definite step forward in building this fight. We cannot alow the brass and their masters the freedom to attack these men and rip them off. Every time there is an attack on us, we're gonna organize to fight back."

"But we can't fight with our head down; we've got to learn more and more about the nature of our enemy and how to fight. So our tasks are in fighting to free these men, we've got to make it harder and harder for this kind of crap to go down, we've got to struggle for these GIs to understand where these divide and rule tactics come from, and we've got to learn who to rely on while we're building this fight."
