THE ENDLESS TUNNEL

Time Magazine, in an article on the Indochina War, quoted "an anonymous official in Washington" as saying:
"A year ago none of us could see victory. There wasn't a prayer. Now we can see it clearly-like a light at the end of a tunnel."
The date of this article? September 28, 1953. 19 year ago!!

ASK A MARINE

The December 1971 issue of Playboy magazine carried this story datelined San Diego:
"The Marine Corps has court-martialed, convicted, and sentenced to two years at hard labor a decorated Vietnam veteran for sexually abusing recruits while serving as drill instructor at a San Diego Marine training camp. The 22-year old Marine Sargent pleaded guilty to forcing recruits to engage in mass sexual acts while showering, to simulate intercourse in their beds, and to perform other sexual maneuvers that the Corps found inconsistent with either military discipline or regular combat training."
OK, but just exactly which "sexual maneuvers" are consistent with Marine Corps training?

FOR SERVICE ABOVE AND BEYOND THE CALL OF DUTY

The Army Reserve Magazine, in its September 1971 issue, announced:
"The award of the NATIONAL DEFENSE SERVICE METAL for those members of Reserve Component units called to active duty in the New York area during the postal strike."
"VIETNAM VETERANS ARE NO MORE A PROBLEM THAN AN ADDICT WHO GOT TURNED ON AT A PARTY..."
