Recently 5 members of NY/NJ VVAW participated in a fund-raising dinner sponsored by the American Friends Service Committee to help provide medical aid for the people of Vietnam.

A film was shown chronicling the recovery of Kim Phuc. She was an 8-year-old girl when she became world famous at the time. No in her 20's,' she is still receiving treatment; she expressed her desire to see friendship between the people of Vietnam and America and hoped to be able one day to study in the U.S. Her feelings of forgiveness and hope for reconciliation were very moving.

The Vietnamese food was delicious and over $2000 was raised at the dinner. So far, AFSC has been able to raise funds and purchase $28,000 worth of basic anti-biotic and sulfa drugs, and ship them to the Phu Qhanh Provincial Hospital in Nha Trang.

Representatives of Vietnam expressed their gratitude for VVAW's continued interest in their needs. One said, " Your generosity is appreciated and will not be forgotten. We were once enemies in another time but through our sharing we can truly be brothers and sisters of the human family and heal the wounds of war."
