Editorial: Look At Who Is Calling Who an Imprerialist

By VVAW

[Printer-Friendly Version]

Look who's calling who an "Imperialist?" We find it amusing reading a columnist like William Buckley, listening to politicians like Reagan and seeing U.S. government officials all condemning the USSR for their aggression in Afghanistan while at the same time, comparing it to the U.S. invasion/aggression in Vietnam. Does this mean that the U.S. power brokers have finally decided to call the U.S. venture in Indochina an "imperialist war"? That's sure what it sounds like--and it sure is what the war in Vietnam was!

If these warmongers who never fought a war but just contributed to getting others killed in one are now admitting to their own imperialist designs of the past, why don't they retire some monastery to repent of their sins?

Actually, it's a matter that they recognize that most Americans know what "imperialism" and "aggression" mean from the prior use of these words to describe Vietnam. And they are looking for the clearest way to picture the actions of the Soviet Union. Unfortunately, whether it is Soviet social imperialists or vice versa, it's all the same to us--we're the ones who do the bleeding while they get the profits. And the payback if kind of amusing.
